Spanish Film Festival 2008
May 22 - 28, Cinema Paradiso - Northbridge

The Spanish Film Festival celebrates its 2nd year in Perth with another season of award-winning, entertaining, provocative and moving films screening from May 22 - 28 at Cinema Paradiso.

This year's selection provides a diverse and vibrant overview of today's Spanish film production with 16 features and two programmes of short films.

The opening night selection is the award-winning, box office smash 7 Billiard Tables, which features one of the great Spanish actresses - Maribel Verdu - as a wife and mother who is forced to make some life-changing decisions. The opening night screening on May 22 will be followed by a Spanish Fiesta at Artrage Bakery complex with entertainment, drinks and tapas from The Pony Club restaurant.

Don't miss special events, MAD MEX, or the remarkable Closing Night Gala film The Orphanage, the thrilling highlight of this year's 5 film Cine Fantastico section - which also includes [REC] - one of the scariest films ever made!

Tickets on sale from April 24 from Cinema Paradiso.

Nolens Volens: an exhibition by Jodee Knowles and Kyoungi Kim

Opens 6pm Wednesday 14 May | Exhibition runs until Friday 30 May 2008

Jodee & Kyoungi are two Perth based artists who are fascinated with the concept of perception. Basing their recent collaborative show 'Nolens Volens' on the idea of immediate reactions and intuitive recognition.

The show primarily entails the use of a single word that both artists have to reinterpret through image. Words that contain significant meaning and relation to life experience. Using the subconscious and their different cultural back grounds to construe a piece of work that is evident within perception.

This show offers more than pen on paper, the viewer can mirror themselves threw the artists own personal familiarity. The term 'Nolens Volens' means- whether willing or unwilling, which reflects the meaning behind the works.
