Key Features
Location
The Northbridge project area covers 27 hectares bounded by Fitzgerald, Newcastle, Aberdeen, Lord and Parry Streets.
A $10 million upgrade of Newcastle Street has been completed. Northbridge, located close to Perth's CBD, is characterised by its vibrancy and is well known for its exciting authentic food shopping, restaurants, alfresco dining and café strips.
Living in the New Northbridge, residents are just moments away from these attractions plus new parklands, community meeting points and surrounded by the historic precincts.
Transport and Amenities
A free Central Area Transit bus service runs through the New Northbridge project area and it is just minutes away from the Perth’s CBD, shopping, entertainment areas. Bus stops are easily accessible and user-friendly. For timetable information and real time CAT Bus updates visit www.transperth.wa.gov.au
Transperth also has a Nightrider late night bus service to get you home after a big night out in Northbridge, with two services leaving Milligan Street (between James St and Roe Sts) every hour from 1am until 4am. They operate along two routes as follows:
Northbridge to Scarborough Beach via Scarborough Beach Rd (route 680)
Northbridge to Fremantle via Canning Hwy (route 697)
Changes have also been made to improve the area's road system. Road widths have been narrowed in some streets and embayed parking created. This has allowed for new street tree plantings, traffic calming methods and has improved the pedestrian environment. Other roads have been upgraded to improve the general amenity, appearance and access of the area as well as creating a cyclist and pedestrian-friendly environment.
Lifestyle and Community
Northbridge is one of Perth's most established neighbourhoods that for more than 150 years has been a centre for cultural diversity with a variety of ethnic and community groups. Living among such a diverse mix of people, land uses and building types creates a dynamic and cosmopolitan community. The changing face of Northbridge is creating an area that is safe, secure, friendly and enjoyable for the Northbridge community to live, work and play in.
Environment and Landscape
The New Northbridge project is sensitive to the needs of the area and incorporates best practice on environmental matters. A variety of public spaces provide a choice and movement for the local community. Careful attention has been paid to ensure that people enjoy moving through the area, with sweeping street vistas or textured pavements. Active areas and thoroughfares have been designed to create an environment where people are encouraged to stay, relax and enjoy.
