Living and Working in New Northbridge

The New Northbridge project is creating a distinctive environment that makes the most of the important civic, cultural, educational and entertainment facilities in the area. Attention to detail, such as the use of certain tree species (eg. Olive Trees) and paving types, has created a specific character for each of the various precincts.

Co-ordination of Themes
A number of existing landscaped precincts adjacent to the project area have been further enhanced and linked through the use of co-ordinated landscape elements such as paving, lighting and street furniture.

Traditional Values
New features reflect and enhance the area’s traditional values, with the type and placement of additional features added only after due consideration of the existing urban environment.

Safe and Secure Environment
High standards of accessibility have been maintained and plant species, furniture, lighting and sightlines through open space have met the strictest safety and security criteria.

Vehicles and Pedestrians
Streetscapes are designed to provide safe and easy access for pedestrians while catering for both current and future activities of multi-use zones. Careful attention has been paid to ensure that cars and pedestrians can share the same environment safely and conveniently.

Parklands and Open Spaces
A key feature of the development is the focus on accessible park areas. To ensure this, no development area is situated more than 400m from a public open space

Public Open Space
The redevelopment focuses heavily on providing accessible, attractive public open space. EPRA has ensured accessibility for all users throughout the area, distributing public space evenly from west to east.

The new and proposed public spaces provide suitable and accessible settings for differing community activities, including:

  • Piazza Nanni on Fitzgerald Street,
  • Russell Square on Aberdeen Street,
  • Plateia Hellas on Lake Street,
  • Museum Street Precinct Park on Aberdeen Street, and
  • Weld Square bounded by Parry, Stirling, Newcastle and Beaufort Streets.
